Law and Ethics: Elder Abuse and Domestic Violence
As the populations ages, elder abuse, a mandated report for both Marriage & Family Therapists and Licensed Clinical Social Workers, is on the rise. While we often think of Elder Abuse and Child Abuse as similar, there are key differences in the reporting laws, and in the psychological meaning of trauma both secondary to the abuse, and that which precipitates the abuse. Learn about elder abuse, and late life domestic violence. We will also consider how elder abuse is another window into family violence and consider the gray areas as cognitive function declines in elderly clients. This course  meets the BBS requirement for Aging & Long Term Care, and the requirement for Law and Ethics.
