Advanced Transgender Study Group

This is for clinicians who have some prior training or experience with transgender issues.  There is also a Saturday afternoon advanced training workshop.  For more info about that option, go to Advanced Transgender Workshop.  The format for both options will be case discussion, with the opportunity to work up vignettes for people who do not have cases to present.  The ongoing monthly study group will also read and discuss the book "Transition and Beyond: Observations on Gender Identity," by Reid Vanderburgh, MFT.

When you register, please describe your training or experience in working with transgender clients, and indicate whether you have a case to present.

If you're seeking a more basic training, check the CEU Calendar for the class, Working with Transgender Clients.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Valerie Igl, MFT, ran a Transgender Support Group in her private practice for over 2 years, and has been providing training on this topic since 2003.  She has been interested in gender issues since her undergraduate days, where her independent honors research project involved genetics and androgyny.  She has been working in the mental health field since 1979, and with transgender clients since 1991. In her full-time private practice, up to 40% of her clients are transgender or intersex adults or teens, ranging in age from 12  - 65 years old.

Previous participants in Valerie's workshops have said they found it easy to ask questions and interact with each other in the comfortable, informal atmosphere, and called the workshops organized, informative, very clear, and helpful.

The classes are held in the El Cerrito office, a comfortable cottage in a tranquil garden setting near all transportation.  See the complete CEU Seminar Calendar for upcoming dates for all workshops.  Custom seminar dates can be arranged for a minimum of 3 people.  Individual training sessions, CEU's included, are available as well.
